The long weekend trip wasn’t just about good foo The long weekend trip wasn’t just about good food, great company, beer and gin... we also managed to fit in a triathlon as well! @perthtriclub had strong representation in the senior long course event, and as the only club rep in the short course, I claim a club podium finish LOL.

A great time was had by all, we enjoyed the hospitality of club member Andrew and his family, the Corrigin locals, and the fantastic @coppenclan Corrigin Hotel

At training this morning, there was already discussion about painting the town green white and black next year!

💚🤍🖤

Started the day with a @perthtriclub group ride. I Started the day with a @perthtriclub group ride. It was an undulating route, which my weight amplifies to make it full-fledged hilly, rough surfaces, a strong wind that seemed to get you every which way, and I was not sad that it was over...

However... it was great to ride in the wide open spaces, and even the character-building aspects of the ride will be positive long-term.

With a farm tour and lunch now sorted, the obvious thing to do next is take part in a triathlon @🤣🤣
First time I’ve ever ventured out on the Brookto First time I’ve ever ventured out on the Brookton Hwy - a little road trip with some @perthtriclub crazies to have a few beers, laughs, a bit of training and to take part in the #CorriginTriathlon
Training always goes in cycles, and there are days Training always goes in cycles, and there are days when you feel like you’ve bitten off more than you can chew. There are other days when things click and you feel on top of the world...

Today was one of the latter, on the back of a little bit of the former... albeit with near-perfect conditions at Coogee, I realised after my first full lap of the shark barrier that I was on track to go sub-60 minutes for a 1.9km swim for the very first time!

And that’s where it landed - with 2 months to go before @im703busso where I will need to complete the 1.9km swim in under 70 minutes, a swim in calm conditions produced a sub-60!

Average pace was only just above 3 mins per 100m too - so how long before I start seeing pace start with a 2 on a consistent basis? 🤔

These little wins and milestones are so important with a long-term project like this; they motivate, they let you know that all that work really is paying off, and they provide such a confidence boost!

Now to keep fingers crossed 🤞 for calm conditions in May 🤣🤣

OK, so week 2 didn’t see all planned sessions co OK, so week 2 didn’t see all planned sessions completed, but it did end on a high with a glorious 6.5km walk/run on some of the trails at John Forrest NP 😊
Got a new lick of paint today - the much anticipat Got a new lick of paint today - the much anticipated arrival of my new tri suit, sporting the current @perthtriclub colours. I’ll miss the old design, but it’s not gone forever... I have an unworn 2XL that will fit me one day - and then I’ll be going retro 🤣
Compare the pair... almost 4 years ago, probably a Compare the pair... almost 4 years ago, probably at least 30kg lighter... slightly different river loop route, but half an hour quicker and average close to 25km/h - makes for a very real and tangible goal to get back there this year 😊
It may only be walking, but clocking up the kms, r It may only be walking, but clocking up the kms, re-establishing habits, and having more consistency in training is part of the rebuild, and will pay dividends over time. #nmmfg #makelifeamazing #smallsteps2greatachievements #trilife #triathlon #roadtobusso
Wouldn’t upload this morning for some reason - a Wouldn’t upload this morning for some reason - anyway... perhaps not the full session intended, but a decent couple of laps with a bit of swell, and some reasonable efforts!
Just a small reminder of the plan for the next 12 Just a small reminder of the plan for the next 12 weeks - after a weird couple of weeks, week 3 from the initial 14 week plan becomes the official week 1... #roadtobusso @im703busso
It was only 3km, and a slow run/walk (albeit the r It was only 3km, and a slow run/walk (albeit the return 1.5 was all uphill) but that was one hot and sweat session. Also the first time I’ve cycled and run the same day for ages (outside of actual events and bricks)

3 months to build up to the goals marathon distance - no excuses.
A memorable moment from Sunday’s @foreshoretriat A memorable moment from Sunday’s @foreshoretriathlon - this photo was shared by @lis_grinham and if you zoom in on the purple swim cap to the right of the photo, I’m pretty sure that’s me!

As I was coming to the end of the swim, I saw a dark grey fin in the water to my left. While I was pretty certain it was a Dolphin, it did prompt me to check and double check!

Closest I’ve ever been to one - and I am so happy that someone captured this!
Does my bum look big in this? 🤣 Does my bum look big in this? 🤣
5 day lockdown starting tonight at 1800 WST. Finge 5 day lockdown starting tonight at 1800 WST. Fingers crossed it does the job and we can still head to Bunbury next weekend!
The swim course looked beautiful first thing this The swim course looked beautiful first thing this morning, and the swim leg of the Rockingham Foreshore Triathlon was really fabulous. In fact I feel reasonably sure that it was my best event swim yet! I was looking forward to the flat 20km bike course, but spot fires meant that FESA wouldn’t allow the bike course to be used - so we had to switch to a Swim-Run format.

The run was horrid. I got a massive stitch early on and took a while to shift it. Every time I tried to break into a jog, my legs felt like lead, and I really ended up doing a 5km walk with a sprint finish.

The support on course from @perthtriclub clubmates, and also from others I know from the triathlon and running communities was AMAZING.

Thanks to everyone who called out my name and/or words of support - you made the morning more bearable!

Post-race I blew up - couldn’t face any food, felt light headed, and just wanted to crash out. I n fact I felt as though I’d run a marathon!

Lack of sleep perhaps, or the humidity and heat, or somehow not having time on the bike between the swim and run? Maybe a combination of all the above?

Lots of work to do in the next 3 months, but at least the job was finished today - and that’s mental endurance locked away in the bank!

As an aside was great to see the elites battling out a run-swim-run format, though I almost didn’t recognise @kappler84 as the hair wasn’t green 🤣
Took some time to do a bit of planning today - the Took some time to do a bit of planning today - there’s been an overall shape to this thing, but now I’ve listed out exactly what needs to be done over the next 14 weeks, and putting it here as a form of accountability. Please note that a couple of sessions will be skipped this week, but basically this is now my life for the next 3 months... #nmmfg #makelifeamazing #smallsteps2greatachievements #ironman #trilife #triathlon #roadtobusso #planning
Just a few snaps taken while volunteering at aid s Just a few snaps taken while volunteering at aid station 2 at this year’s Australia Day Ultra in #Australind

Always a great event to be part of, but with this year being the 4th in a row as a volunteer, it might be time to make a return as a participant in 2022...

Fantastic watching people achieving so much - PBS, grinding out 100km finishes, community spirit and support amongst runners... this event never disappoints.

Congratulations to everyone who achieved some kind of success today, and commiserations to those who didn’t have the day they planned!

Kudos to Ron - @gone2thepack - you put your heart into this event, and it shows 😊
Heading in the right direction, and a solid sustai Heading in the right direction, and a solid sustained upward trajectory since the slump in October last year. In a better position than this time last year too, which is great.

Continuing to supplement training with sprint distance events - next one is in two weeks - @foreshoretriathlon - repping @perthtriclub along with a number of clubmates.

The official results from yesterday’s @giantmand The official results from yesterday’s @giantmandurah @mandurahtriclub #TWAStateInterclubs

Very closely matches the times recorded on the watch - and confirms a few things...

I’m not in a bad place overall - probably similar on balance to where I was in February last year, at Bunbury... before COVID started to impact everything.

My swim is stronger than it was then, I’m faster on the bike when there’s fewer uphill segments (so is everyone, but gravity is a real enemy!)

Finally my run is not as strong as it was a year ago. Again, no surprise as it’s been neglected.

So where to from here? Renewed efforts on the food front - I’ve shifted the weight before (2012) so I know it can be done again. That should help with gravity and running.

Also need to ensure there’s plenty of running in my schedule each week. That should help with fitness overall.

Just under 16 weeks to @im703busso and a half dozen events along the way to keep focus and to help gauge progress 😊

This photo captures a moment that defines, complet This photo captures a moment that defines, completely, the spirit of the tri club that I am lucky to be a member of. In the final km of today’s Interclubs triathlon, a green white and black army of @perthtriclub clubmates steadily grew in numbers, cheering me on to the finish line, as I once again successfully achieved a reverse first finishing position.

Love this club 💚🤍🖤
